ZIMBABWE CRISIS:MUGABE TO ANNOUNCE NEW LEADER

Harare -Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is expected to address a Press Conference Thursday Morning in which he is expected to announce his estranged Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa as his successor.

Mugabe lost the grip to Power last evening after 37 years, following a silent coup by the Zimbabwe Defense Forces led by Major General SB Moyo. Gen Moyo confirmed that Mugabe and his Family are safe, calling for calmness, denying that Army has carried out a coup.

“It is a done deal. The army has taken full control of state affairs, be calm, as the President and his family are safe.” He said. All the security Organs including intelligence are reporting to Gen SB Moyo as the acting head of State.

Top Political figures in the Southern African Country have indicated that this will end Mugabe’s rule. President Mugabe had fired his Vice PresidentEmmersonMnangagwa, drawing his wife Grace Mugabe closer to the helm. The army took over the State Television Tuesday evening.

South Africa President Jacob Zuma, who is also the Chairman of SADAC confirmed that Mugabe is fine but confined at his home. “I talked to President Mugabe and he confirmed that he is fine but confined. We call upon the army not escalate the situation.” He said

Several key Government officials including Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo have been arrested. Earlier in the day, Mr. Mnangagwa announced his return in the Country in a tweet.

“Zimbabweans stay calm & remain turned to national news. I’m back in the country & will be quite busy over the next few days. My communication with you will now be via formal broadcasting channels so I’m unlikely to use twitter handle. Thank you for the support & solidarity,” he tweeted.

“We salute & applaud the bravely of our ZDF who decisively rejected desperate last minute concessions by an Executive was to create a family dynasty. An army led transitional phase will now pave way for a peaceful, free & fair democratic elections.”

He added that“I will fight tooth and nail against those making a mockery against Zanu-PF founding principles, ethos and values.”

Gun Fire and severe explosions were heard in the capital with ZDF calling on the elite Presidential Guard to surrender.

Gen SB Moyo said the army is seeking to pacify a degenerating social and economic situation in the Country.

“We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country, in order to bring them to justice” he said.
