COVID-19: UGANDA GETS NEW 11 CASES, ALL DRIVERS FROM KENYA AND TANZANIA

Uganda has registered new 11 Covid-19 patients, all truck drivers from Neighboring Kenya and Tanzania, the Ministry of Health has conformed

The Truck drivers tested positive to the Pandemic Thursday afternoon, just hours after several samples were tested.

This brings the total number of infections to 74, with at least 46 recoveries and zero deaths.

UTN understands the new patients include 6 Tanzania truck drivers and 5 Kenyans. All the Tanzanians entered the country through Mutukula boarder point, while three Kenyans entered through Malaba and two came through Busia in Eastern Uganda.

The development comes in just hours after the Kampala authorities instituted a relay driving system, where foreign drivers will only hand over their trucks to their Ugandan counterparts to drive through the country to the destination boarder point.

The new cases have attracted a wave of verbal artillery on social media from Ugandans towards the neighboring governments, for failing to contain the pandemic and utter refusal to manage their boarder.

One jilted Ugandan, intimated that this would lead to Ugandan authorities to extend the total lock-down in the country, as the number of cases seen to have a growing trend.

“the mediocrity of our East African counterparts will make us prolong our lock-down” He intimated.
