MINISTER CRITIQUE FATHERS FOR NEGATING RESPONSIBILITIES

BY NYAKATO DOREEN, NAMAKULA VICTO, KYOMUKAMA LYDIA, ASOMO DOREEN, KASOLE IBRAHIM.

As Ugandans prepare for the national father’s day celebration, the minister for ethics and integrity Fr.simon lokodo has critiqued fathers for negating their responsibilities which has contributed to single parenthood in most families.

Minister Lukodo while addressing Journalists at the National media Centre in Kampala, said most single parent families are struggling to walks of life simply because fathers have failed to undertake their responsive roles.

Lukodo cites some children who often fail to get basic needs just because the father opted to desert that family which he says this year’s father’s day cerebrations should act as a checklist to fathers to desist single parenthood.

Minister Lukodo attributes the increasing crimes in Uganda such as rape to absence of fathers in homes adding that most often the mothers leave their children at home in attempt to search for food making these girls vulnerable to rape.

Statistics indicate that 25 percent of the police files have defilement cases which is as a result of the vulnerability of girls as mothers often leave them at homes.

This year’s cerebrations will be held at Kololo air strip on 23rd June with a match walk where Security Minister General Elly Tumwine will be the chief walker.
