MP STALKER APPLIES FOR BAIL

By UTN Reporter

Kampala High court judge Justice Jane Francis Abodo has set Friday 3rd July 2018 to deliver the ruling on the bail application filed by a 25 year old Brian Isiko, who was jailed for sending love messages to Kabarole Woman legislator Sylivia Rwabwogo.

Isiko filed his bail application seeking to be released pending hearing of his appeal, in which he challenges the 2 year sentence awarded to him by Buganda Road grade one Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.

Isiko was convicted on charges relating to computer misuse and offensive communication

Isiko in his bail application relied on the fact that the custodial sentence was likely to hamper his studies at YMCA Institute Jinja Campus.

Isiko further stated that the case on which he was convicted didn’t involve any violence; that he has a fixed place of abode under the jurisdiction of this court, and that he is a first offender.

He presented two sureties in court Grace Regan Muganza a retired UPDF officer and current coordinator of the Reserve force and Wako Godfrey, the Assistant Academic Registrar of Kyambogo University, who is also his paternal uncle.

Isiko’s lawyer Ramadhan Waiswa asked court to express its discretion and grant the applicant a non-cash bail.

State prosecutor Nyanzi Gladys opposed this application saying that Isiko didn’t prove his place of residence since he claimed he stays with his grandmother Alice Matende, who wasn’t in court to confirm.
