Kampala – The Governor Bank of Uganda Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebire has failed to address a high-powered meeting of Company Chief Executives, Bank Executives and Government Ministers due to ill health. The Ailing Governor was set to be the guest of honor while Buganda Land Board was launching its Lease Access Financial Initiative at Serena Hotel,
but failed to make it to the Meeting Room, as he needed substantial physical support to move out of his car.
An entourage led by Prince David Wasajja and Buganda Lands Minister Eng. Martin Kasekende left the well-packed main conference room, to welcome and usher in Prof Mutebire as the Chief Guest, but only to walk back to the room disappointed.
Pictures of the ailing Mutebire were taken, showing him struggling to get out of his official car, but in vain.
He was reportedly advised by his Personal Assistant with whom he was in the car, to abandon the event.
To hide the embarrassment, Eng. Martin Kasekende announced to the meeting, that the Guest of Honor had received an urgent call, to attend a meeting, which he could not turn down.
He immediately called in the Director for Financial Stability in the Bank of Uganda Dr. Charles Abuka, to represent him.
In the meeting, was Lands and Urban Planning Minister Daudi Migereko, Trade and Industry Minister Amelia Kyambadde, CEO’s from the major Banking Institutions in the Country, officials from Buganda Government and others.
Professor Mutebire 76years old has reportedly had a long fight with Diabetes, Hypertension and other illnesses.
Professor Tumusiime Mutebire has been the Governor of Bank of Uganda for more than 15 years.
