CONTRAVERSIAL HOMOSEXUALITY BILL DEBATE KICK STARTS IN LEGAL COMMITTEE

Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Asuman Basalirwa the mover of the controversial homosexuality Bill has asked the legal committee to amend the sentence for homosexuality from ten years to life sentence for persons engaged in the same sex.

 He revealed this as he appeared at the committee ever since it was tabled last week in parliament.

The MP Asuman Basalirwa proposed lighter penalties when the Anti-Homosexuality Bill was tabled in parliament on Thursday last week.

 The legal and parliamentary affairs committee, which commenced the scrutiny of the bill, the MP explained that the bill started by discussing possibilities of Hermaphrodites and could be penalties for the offenders.

 Members on the committee sounded to be proposing death penalty for the aggravated homosexuality offenders as its against biblical and quran teachings for the offenders.

Robina Rwakojjo the committee chairperson sounded to be in desire need to increase on time to debate this bill adding that she will interest the speaker of Parliament on the same.
