MAGISTRATE PROBED OVER SNATCHING WOMAN'S HUBBY

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is investigating a female magistrate for allegedly snatching another woman’s husband.

Jinja Grade One Magistrate Phiona Birungi is being investigated for snatching away Isaac Mugerwa, from Dr Julie Mugerwa.

The Secretary to JSC Kagole Kivumbi confirmed this development though he declined to disclose more details and the likely punishment that the judicial officer risks to face once found culpable.

The JSC is a government body that recruits and reprimands errant judicial officers among other functions. This newspaper understands that Dr Julie first filed the complaint against magistrate Birungi with the Judiciary that directly supervises her about four months ago.

According to Chief Registrar Paul Gadenya who is the administrative head of all the magistrates and registrars, said Dr Julie decided to file the complaint because as a judicial officer, Birungi’s conduct should not bring reproach to the Judiciary.

Gadenya further explained that as judicial officers, they are supposed to be exemplary as they should not be engaged in the same vices that they usually preside over during the court sessions.

Gadenya adds that Judicial code of conduct and the judicial service commission rules demand that a judicial officer should not engage in acts that bring reproach to the Judiciary by engaging in similar offenses that they preside over that is why Dr Julie filed this complaint against one of our own.
