UGANDAN ARMY SOLDIER KILLS 7 AT MAKINDYE BARRACKS, SHOT HIMSELF

A Ugandan soldier attached to Makindye Military Barracks has shot fellow killed seven people, including three children, in a shooting spree at a military police barracks in the capital, Kampala.

The soldier identified as Sgt Isaac Obua allegedly had matters relating to domestic violence which prompted him to shot indiscriminatively.

According to the spokesperson of Military police Maj. Edward Birungi said Sgt Obua who had a dispute with his wife, he was at the same time taking marijuana.

Maj Edward Birungi added that the Sgt was drunk and before he started shooting as he searched for his wife. We then learnt that Sgt Obua’s wife managed to escape.

Sgt Isaac Obua then shot dead himself.

Our crew established that Sgt Obua killed three children, a female soldier and three soldiers' wives.

About 10 sustained injuries during the shooting at the barracks.

The Army spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda confirmed the incident but was also quick to say that Sgt Obua was a drunkard.

At first Police in command of the commandant Kampala Metropolitan southern Andrew Kaggwa tried to visit the scene immediately the incident had happened but the Military bared police from accessing the scene.

Three people were killed in May and six injured in a bar. Similarly in 2014, a soldier killed 10 at top bar at William street.

Before the bodies were removed from the Baracks, it was a somber mood as the military and other security organs mourned the event.
