GIRL CHILD CHALLENGES

Lack of knowledge has been sighted as one of the greatest challenges faced by a girl child in Uganda.

A non-government organization, Determined African Related kids say they have conducted a research especially in the eastern region of the country and found out that lack of necessary knowledge is the reason why the girl child remains a target to many challenges.

Sumayiya Muwonge, the Director, Determined African Related kids notes that a girl child’s right is highly violated in the rural areas and yet those of authority seem to keep a deaf ear. Research shows that rural girls are engaged in cross-generation sex and early marriages among others.

According to Muwonge, many of these girls lack the necessary information to make informed decisions, a reason why they chose to visit different schools educating the girl-child.

Although law that protect a girl child exist, Muwonge thinks they are not doing enough and therefore calls upon the government to step up the implication of such laws.
