KABAKA CELEBRATES 62 YEARS

By UTN Reporter Wakiso - A mammoth gathering poured at Lubiri High School in Wakiso district as Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II celebrated his 62 birth day. Numerous dignitaries from Mengo and the Central government blessed the function as well as the royal family.

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi who was flanked by Nabagereka Lady Sylvia Nagginda was received at the school by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Prince David Wasajja, among other dignitaries.

Several School choirs performed at the event as Buganda celebrates 62 years of Kabaka Mutebi’s life. Kabaka also commissioned a new classroom block at the newly royal high school, meant to educate the needy but bright children in Buganda.

Mengo education minister Al Hajji Dr Twaha Kawaase says the magnificent building cost the Mengo establishment Shs 1.6 billion. Kabaka recognized the exceptional contribution of selected elders and former ministers and officials in the Muteesa II government. Notable among them was Mr. A.D Lubowa, aged 101 years old.

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, who ascended to the throne in 1993, was born on April 13th 1955 at Mulago Hospital.

He spent better years in Mengo Palace in Kampala, before his late father Fredrick Muteesa II sent him to Bugangayizi for studies. He was whisked away to the United Kingdom when Dr Milton Obote abolished Kingdoms in the Country.

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II attended North Polytechnic, Bradford College and later Cambridge University before practicing journalism in London.
