Kyaddondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine has been charged before the General Court Martial in Gulu on allegations relating to illegal possession of weapons and ammunitions.
Bobi Wine appeared before the chairman General of the Court Martial Lt Gen Andrew Guti amidst tight security.
He was charged during a court session that was restricted to the media and public.
Bobi Wine’s lawyers Medard Lubega Ssegona and Asuman Basalirwa too were first denied access to court but later allowed.
Bobi Wine who was arrested on Monday following chaos and confrontation with security during the by-election campaigns in Arua Municipality.
The other 4 Legislators who were arrested alongside over 30 Persons earlier in the day appeared before Gulu Chief Magistrate His Lordship Dawa Francis Matenga.
According to UPDF Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire,Bobi Wine immediately after reading the charges to him was remanded to Makindye Military Barracks till August 23, 2018 for further management of the matter.
Brig Richard Karemire revealed that Bobi Wine was charged under Section 119 (1) (h) of the UPDF Act, 2005 on accounts of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Ever since Police disclosed that Bobi was found in possession with gun and bullets it has raised mixed reactions from the public.
Rtd Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu said the army should have cordoned off the hotel to conduct a proper search witnessed by local authorities.
The law stipulates that every person, not otherwise subject to military law, who aids or abets a person subject to military law in the commission of a service offence; and every person found in unlawful possession of arms, ammunition or equipment ordinarily being the monopoly of the Defense Forces; or other classified stores as prescribed, is subject to military law and can be tried in military courts as appropriate.
The question remains whether the pistol, SMG Rifle and am munitions are a reserve of the Army because there are several security organizations that often use it.
The Speaker of Parliament on Wednesday prematurely adjourned Parliament and assigned Several MPs to travel to Gulu and ascertain the way about of the legislators.
